Who is at Risk: Suicide Among Young People
Fleischmann, Bertole & Belfer studied 894 cases of successful suicide attempts among young people. The results were staggering:
More research yielded Mood disorders (42.1%) and Substance Related Disorders (40.8%) were represented as almost half of those who committed suicide (Fleischmann, Bertole & Belfer, 2005). Based off this research is it clear that those suffering from mental disorders are at a high risk of suicide.
Majority
(85%) of the 894 cases, were ages 10 to 24.
- 72.1% were up to age 21
- 12.3% were aged 20-29
- 15.5% were aged 15 to 29
1,409 mental disorders were found in the 894 total
