Suicide Among Cultures

 Research on Australian Suicide Rates

Research on American Suicide Rates:
Between 1999 and 2009 19.3% of those who committed suicide in the USA were aged 45-54 (McIntosh, 2012). Those highest at risk seem to be elderly white males (65+) living in Montana, Alaska or Wyoming; three of the most rural areas in the US.

Research on the World's Suicide Rates. (WHO, 2012)
Suicide rates were per 100,000 deaths per country, the Korean women were most likely to commit suicide:

Who is at Risk: Suicide Among Young People

Fleischmann, Bertole & Belfer studied 894 cases of successful suicide attempts among young people. The results were staggering:

Majority (85%) of the 894 cases, were ages 10 to 24.
         - 72.1% were up to age 21
         - 12.3% were aged 20-29
         - 15.5% were aged 15 to 29

1,409 mental disorders were found in the 894 total
          - 88.6% had a diagnosis of at least 1 mental disorder (Fleischmann, Bertole & Belfer, 2005:676)

More research yielded Mood disorders (42.1%) and Substance Related Disorders (40.8%) were represented as almost half of those who committed suicide (Fleischmann, Bertole & Belfer, 2005). Based off this research is it clear that those suffering from mental disorders are at a high risk of suicide.
